Emily Smith

Emily N. Smith is a PhD candidate in English studying Rhetoric and Composition.

Her dissertation project, Performing Histories: Archival Embodiment as a Mode of Rhetorical Historiography, argues that artists, scholars, and community members use performance to compose and circulate shared cultural histories through a methodology of “archival embodiment.”  Her article, “A View from the Hill: ‘One Shot’ Harris and The Pittsburgh Courier,” was published in Rhetoric Society Quarterly this past spring.

At Penn State, Emily teaches academic and technical writing. She has served as a graduate assistant for the Program in Writing and Rhetoric, as well as a teaching mentor and a coordinator for the English Department Mentoring Program.
