Biography:

Haley Schneider is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences. Haley studies rhetorics of utopia, or how visions of the future influence the way communities remember the past and act in the present. In her master’s thesis she examined how representatives of the United Nations mobilized international memory in localized spaces through the World Heritage Program. Her dissertation research focuses on the utopianism of cities. She researches the ways in which urban planning blends the ideal and the real, positioning cities as physical representations of political ideals.
