Biography:

Ryan Insley is a senior Schreyer scholar from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, majoring in English, Political Science, and Philosophy, and minoring in Communications. In addition to interning for the Center for Democratic Deliberation, he is also the President of the Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council, the Vice President of Pi Sigma Alpha - The National Political Science Honor Society, the Vice President of the Secular Student Alliance - Penn State Chapter, and the Secretary of Philosophy in Conversation. This is his first year working with the Center for Democratic Deliberation and he enjoys documenting the thoughts and experiences of the Penn State community through interviews. To Ryan, democracy is the establishment of consensual political institutions that actively listen to, reflect on, and remain accountable to an informed people. Democracy, in its ideal, thereby serves as the protective force against corruption, tyranny, and other abuses of governmental power.
