Higher education has been part of our nation’s democratic framework from the very beginning. Colleges and universities expand knowledge, foster productive debates, and give students the ability to assess and evaluate arguments.
However, we find ourselves in a time of extreme polarization, contention, and misinformation. What role should colleges and universities play in this climate?
Join Eric Barron, Penn State’s 18th president, as he considers this very question. This conversation-style event will address how universities should respond to the current crisis.
Throughout his time as Penn State’s president, Barron sought to create an atmosphere that promoted open inquiry and viewpoint diversity while recognizing the importance of equity, inclusion. and open exchange throughout the university. In this conversation, he will reflect on his tenure and offer insight into how Penn State and other universities can continue to create a healthy democratic culture in these contentious times.
Please note that the National Press Club requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination for entrance to this event. Masks are recommended when not actively eating and drinking.
